32nd Salon d'Automne
Mapping an open call – Special Exhibitions Hall, Sursock Museum, Beirut
2016
  • Multidisciplinary design

Since its inception in 1961, the Sursock Museum has curated works of emerging and established artists to be displayed in the once annual but now bi-yearly Salon d’Automne exhibition, in the tradition of the historic Paris Salon. This open call exhibition establishes a platform for artists, art critics, and the public to discuss and debate current art practices in Lebanon. This time around, 52 works selected by the jury, from over 350 applications, were exhibited in the Museum’s Special Exhibitions Hall. Apart from the two traditional prizes awarded to two artists selected by the jury, a new prize was introduced: The People’s Choice Award. Two voting stations were set up in the exhibition space in order to give the audience a chance to vote for the work of their choosing. The design approach to the 32nd Salon d’Automne focuses on the artists’ demographics.
